Church of San Esteban

Header image

Tower declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

12th–13th centuries. A fine example of late Romanesque architecture, the tower is considered one of the most beautiful of its kind. Following a fire in 1896, it was dismantled and rebuilt in the early 20th century, during which time the Baroque slate spire was replaced by the current tiled one.

It houses an exceptional carving of Christ on the Cross with four nails and one arm freed from the cross, from the now-demolished church of Santiago (late 12th or early 13th century).
