Church of San Millán (Iglesia de San Millán)

Header image

Designated an Asset of Cultural Interest

A temple of the utmost importance, serving as a model for the Romanesque churches of Segovia, as it incorporates all their characteristic features, such as Islamic influence (decoration and Caliphate-style vaults), atria that serve as meeting places—replacing the arcades of a square—and slender bell towers that give the city a highly distinctive skyline. Built in the style of Jaca Cathedral, it features a tower that preserves remains of an earlier Mozarabic-style building.

Inside, amongst other works of art, are the magnificent carvings by the Segovian sculptor Aniceto Marinas: ‘La Soledad al pie de la Cruz’ (Our Lady of Sorrows at the Foot of the Cross) and ‘El Santísimo Cristo en su Última Palabra’ (The Holy Christ in His Last Words), which are carried in procession during the city’s Holy Week.
