House of Reading

The building—formerly the Royal Prison—also served as the Palace of Archives, Libraries and Museums, the State Public Library and the city’s first exhibition hall.
Today, as the Municipal Library, we offer a space for reading, study and learning, with a book and audiovisual materials lending service, as well as a venue for numerous cultural activities that define us as a dynamic centre hosting book launches, lectures, discussions, exhibitions, reading promotion workshops and music concerts. A veritable cultural hub for a World Heritage City.
