Los melindres de Belisa, also titled La melindrosa or Los esclavos supuestos, is a comedy of errors by Lope de Vega, written between 1606 and 1608 and published in 1617.
Plot
Belisa is a beautiful and wealthy young heiress besieged by a thousand suitors, but she finds ridiculous flaws in all of them.
Two young lovers, Felisardo and Celia, who are fleeing justice for a matter of honour, seek refuge in the home of Eliso, a good friend. Lisarda, Belisa's mother, comes there to collect an outstanding debt. Eliso believes that the law is coming for the young people and disguises them as slaves. As he has no money, the law decides that the slaves should cover the debt.
The fake slave is very handsome and charms both Lisarda and her daughter Belisa. Meanwhile, Don Juan, Belisa's brother, falls for the supposed slave. After many twists and turns, the love of the two lovers triumphs over everyone's desires.
