15th–19th centuries. It was founded following the visit made by St Francis to the Iberian Peninsula around 1220. Built on the site of the former parish church of St Benedict. It still retains its Elizabethan Gothic cloister. In 1862, the Royal Artillery College was established here following a fire at the Alcázar, where it had originally been based. It houses a notable Science and Artillery Library and museum with a collection of objects of historical value from the Artillery Academy.
